The FeelWell Four
Enhancing your well-being is about so much more than just the foods you eat. At FeelWell Collective, we view health through a holistic & whole-person lens. This means that we take into account several different factors when it comes to assisting you on your healing journey. We believe that there are four foundations to well-being: nutrition, circulation, relaxation, and connection.
These four guiding principles provide you with an idea of what areas of your life to focus on as you embark on your healing journey. Each principle can be further broken down into the most important things to consider when attempting to optimize well-being.
NUTRITION
Nutrition is influenced by several factors including: the kinds and quality of foods you are consuming, your body’s ability to digest/absorb nutrients from those foods, and your mindset around your consumption.
Organic fruits and veggies, organic and grass fed or pastured meats, and healthy fats are healing foods to incorporate into your daily meals to nourish the body and heal the gut.
Utilizing supplements such as digestive enzymes and probiotics to support you digestive system will help your body’s ability to absorb the many nutrients that these foods have to offer.
Correcting any nutrient imbalances is also a vital step in enhancing your well-being. Unfortunately, due to factors such as soil quality, stress levels, and exposure to toxins our bodies are often depleted of the key nutrients we need to maintain optimal function. Lab testing is a great way to identify deficiencies so that you can appropriately supplement to find balance.
CIRCULATION
Supporting the body’s circulatory system is crucial for flushing toxins and other unwanted substances out of the body. This can be done through prioritizing proper hydration, incorporating gentle movement into your daily routine, and utilizing practices that stimulate the lymphatic system.
We recommend drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water to keep the body properly hydrated. Quality of water is also key- investing in a good quality water filter for your home is one of the most significant things you can do to influence your health. The EWG has an awesome database that allows you to input your zip code and see the main contaminants in your local tap water. Knowledge is power!
The lymphatic system is a network of tissues, vessels, and organs in the body that work in combination with the circulatory system to support proper detoxification. Practices such as dry brushing, guasha, self massage, rebounding, gentle movement, and even deep breathing all help by stimulating the lymphatic system and clearing stagnation.
RELAXATION
Chronic stress is one of the leading causes of increasing levels of inflammation and inflammatory disorders in our population. Supporting the body’s stress response will not only build resiliency, but also help inhibit inflammation in the body so that you can start feeling well.
Creating intentional night time routines and getting at least 7-8 hours of night, will help switch on your parasympathetic nervous system signaling your body to enter a state of rest.
Adaptogens and other herbs are excellent tools in the journey to quell inflammation and nourish the nervous system. Our Adrenal Health protocol on Fullscript is a great resource for supplements intended to moderate the nervous system and stress hormones.
Learning how to slow down will allow you to become more in tune with the signals your body sends to communicate your needs.
CONNECTION
Connection is arguably the one of the most necessary requirements for preventing chronic symptoms and illness, and unfortunately the most overlooked. Human beings thrive on connection, and there is extensive research on the idea that it plays a massive role in lowering inflammation in the body.
It is important to consider connections within your community and also your environment. Are you making time for friends? Do you feel as if you have a community that provides you resources for support? Are you spending time outside? All of these factors positively impact well-being.
Above all, we believe that increasing connection with your self, getting to know those deeper layers of yourself, is where the growth and transformation happens, When we make time to show up for ourselves- we get to know ourselves in a way that taps into our inherent inner wisdom.
